TRAC VIS PRE-MOOT

Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (hereinafter Vis Moot) is a competition for promotion of International Commercial Arbitration, each year concentrating on a critical issue in international commerce. Every year, law students from universities all over the world participate in this competition. The Moot has three Directors – Dr Christopher Kee, Prof Dr Stefan Kröll, and Mag. Patrizia Netal. Institutional members are Pace University, Queen Mary (University of London), Stockholm University, University of Vienna, Austrian Arbitration Association, Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Moot Alumni Association, and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (Secretary of UNCITRAL is member ex officio). For more information about Vis Moot click here.

Many law firms and arbitration institutions throughout the world hold several Pre-moots in order to promote and prepare students for participating in the main oral hearing competition in Vienna and/or Hong Kong.

In line with its scholar activities and in order to promote international arbitration among young practitioners, TRAC decided to engage in organizing Vis Pre-moot in Tehran. It should be noted that the Pre-moot is not a regional elimination moot for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

TRAC Vis Pre-moot will give Vis Moot teams the opportunity to compete with participants from around the world and to practice and improve their advocacy skills and arguments with other participants in front of experienced practitioners serving as arbitrators and to receive their comments.

General Rules

The Pre-Moot uses the Vis Moot Problem and its rules. These Rules are essentially the same as the rules available at Vis Moot website. Participating teams in the Pre-Moot must ensure that they are fully aware of these rules and do not contravene them in any way.
Pre-Moot will take place between teams representing law schools, which successfully registered their name as a team on the official website of the Vis Moot and will participate in oral rounds in Vienna or/and Hong Kong.

TRAC reserves the right to ask the teams, if necessary, to provide them with the official authorization of the Vis Moot association to participate in Vienna or Hong Kong rounds.

Registration

Registration in the Pre-Moot will be finalized when the Registration Form is completed. Interested teams shall submit the registration form to TRAC within the deadline each year.

Note: Withdrawal after submission affects adversely the oral argument schedule. Therefore, teams that have submitted the Form are expected to participate in the entire Pre-Moot.

Arbitrators

The participating teams are judged by panels, each including 3 arbitrators selected among lawyers and professionals from around the world who accept the invitation of attendance sent by TRAC.

Communications

All communications regarding the Pre-moot shall be made from/to the respected section of the TRAC Moot Court Organising Committee via email (vispremoot@trac.ir).
