On July 5, 2017, Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre (TRAC) and Istanbul Arbitration Centre (ISTAC) hosted their Second Joint Seminar in Tehran in cooperation with Derains&Gharavi International Law Firm. The seminar was composed of an opening remark, two panels and a solo speech.
After opening remarks of Ms. Adineh Abghari (Senior Legal Counsel of TRAC), in the first panel, titled as “Emerging Arbitration Institutions: Rooms and Ingredients for Success” and under the moderation of Mr. Matthieu de Boisséson (Independent Arbitrator), Mr. Nicola Mariani (Dechert LLP, Georgia) addressed the topic of “Regional Room for Success?” In addition, Dr. Oveis Rezvanian and Professor Zyia AkIncI (Directors of Centres) introduced their respective institutions and the latest developments.
In the second panel, titled as “the Role of Legislation and Judiciary of Host of Arbitration Institutions in UAE, Iran and Turkey”, Mr. Guillaume Borg (Director of Legal Affairs of Middle East and North Africa of SNC Lavalin), Mr. Moshkan Mashkour (Founding Partner at Sanglaj International Consultants) and Ms. Candan Yasan (Secretary General of ISTAC) dealt with this subject matter from perspectives of different jurisdictions, namely UAE, Iran and Turkey. This panel chaired by Mr. Hansjörg Stutzer (Founding Partner at Houvenin Rechtsanwälte).
After all and in his solo speech, Dr. Hamid G. Gharavi (Founding Partner at Derains & Gharavi International Law Firm) addressed the title of “Pros and cons of ICSID Convention: Should Iran ratify it?”
The second TRAC-ISTAC joint seminar was warmly welcomed by lawyers, academics, graduated students and business users. The event was closed by serving of lunch for all participants.
Since 2016, TRAC and ISTAC decided to engage in joint efforts by way of yearly seminars in Paris, Istanbul, and Teheran, in order to introduce their rules and operations and to set out their distinguishing features. Following this plan, the first round of TRAC and ISTAC joint seminar was held in December, 2016 in Paris in association with Derains & Gharavi International Law Firm.
