Hamid Gharavi (President)
Dr Gharavi, a National of Iran and France, is a member of the Paris and New York Bars, and founding partner of Derains & Gharavi. He has acted as counsel and arbitrator in over 200 international arbitrations, including some that have led to landmark awards such as in Dayani v. Republic of Korea, DLP v. Yemen, Saba Fakes v. Turkey, Pantechniki v. Albania, Mamidoil v. Albania, Burimi v. Albania, Telsim v. Kazakhstan, Caratube v. Kazakhstan, Aktau v. Kazakhstan, Arif v. Moldova and Lemire v. Ukraine. Dr Gharavi was appointed on the ICSID Panel by Cambodia, as court member of the LCIA (2008-2012) and Board member of Istanbul Arbitration Centre (since 2015). He holds a PhD from the University of Paris II, and post-graduate degrees from NYU and University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. He teaches investment arbitration at the University of Paris II, and is the author of a large number of publications.
Mojtaba Kazazi
Dr. Mojtaba Kazazi, from Iran, is a former judge of the high courts of Tehran, a member of the Central Bar, and an experienced international arbitrator. He worked extensively on the arbitration and settlement of claims before the Iran-U.S Claims Tribunal at the Hague. He also served for many years as the Executive Head of the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC), and as the Secretary of its Governing Council, in Geneva, where he was instrumental in setting up the UNCC and in resolving 2.7 million claims from over 100 countries. More recently, he was the Executive Commissioner of two international mass claims programs for payment of compensation to workers of Rana Plaza building collapse and of Tazreen Fashion factory fire, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He lectured at the Hague Academy of International Law in 2017, and is currently a visiting scholar at the Graduate Institute, in Geneva ; and a Vice-président of Institut de droit international.
Moshkan Mashkur
Dr. Moshkan Mashkour is graduated in 1984 in private and public international law from University of Paris-II and Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales, Paris, and in Energy Law, from University of Paris-I. He obtained his Doctorate in law in 1991 from University of Paris-I, Sorbonne.
He has been in charge of major international litigations of Iranian entities from 1984 to 2004 and acted for 13 years as Deputy to the Head of the Bureau of International Legal Services; In 2004, he was appointed as the first director of the Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre, and held that position until 2009. He then founded Sanglaj International Consultants. He has acted as adviser, counsel, expert and arbitrator in around 100 ad hoc and institutional arbitrations, including several multi-billion USD cases, with respect to foreign investment, constructions disputes in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors as well as mining and industrial projects, and international trade.
Yun Jae Baek
Mr. Yun Jae Baek is working as the head of the International Dispute Resolution Team at Yulchon. Mr. Baek, qualified to practice in both Korea and New York, is considered as one of Korea’s top lawyers in the areas of international arbitration, M&A, corporate and aviation, where he has acquired expert knowledge and experience for over 30 years. Currently, Mr. Baek serves as an arbitrator for many arbitral institutions including the ICC, KCAB, AIAC, Shanghai International Arbitration Center, and the Cairo Regional Centre for International Arbitration. His reputation has allowed him to be selected as a leading lawyer by renowned publications such as Chambers Global, Who’s Who Legal, and Benchmark Litigation. He got his LLB from Seoul National University Law School and his LLM from Harvard Law School. He is fluent in Korean and English.
Loukas Mistelis
Professor Loukas Mistelis is an acknowledged authority on international dispute resolution. In 2006 he was listed as one of the “leading lights in international arbitration”, is listed on the Who’s Who Commercial Arbitration since 2007, and GAR Thought Leaders in International Arbitration and is also a member of the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators and recipient of the GAR Award for best lecture of 2013. He is the Clive Schmitthoff Professor of Transnational Law and Arbitration and Director of the School of International Arbitration, Queen Mary University of London. He has been a visiting professor or scholar at National University of Singapore, Columbia Law School, NYU Law School, Keio University, Tokyo, LUISS, Rome and Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon. He is a member of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration and a member of the Advisory Board of EFILA, a member of the Academic Committee of AIPN and President of the Court of CEDRAC (Cyprus Eurasia Dispute Resolution & Arbitration Centre). Professor Mistelis was educated in Greece, France, Germany and Japan. He has been a member of the Athens Bar since 1993. He is fluent in English, German and Greek, and has good knowledge of French, and basic knowledge of Polish, Russian and Spanish.
His substantial arbitration experience includes more than 70 arbitrations and covers ad hoc and ICC, ICSID, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SCC, Swiss Chambers, GCC Arbitration Centre and Moscow cases. He has also acted as counsel and expert in commercial and investment arbitration proceedings. His publications include more than 65 referred articles and 14 books, including Comparative International Commercial Arbitration (2013, with Lew and Kröll), Mandatory Rules in International Arbitration (2009, with Bermann), Concise International Arbitration (2nd edition, 2016), The Role of Arbitration in Shipping Law (2016, with Goldby) and the multi-volume World Arbitration Reporter.
Mohsen Mohebi
Dr. Mohsen Mohebi is the founder and partner of the Dr. Mohebi & Associates Law Offices established in 2003 in Tehran. As a professor of international law and arbitration, he is the author of many books and publications (mostly in Persian) in international law, commercial arbitration and investment. He has been the first editor-in-chief of the first Iranian Law Review in the field of international law Iran, published since 1984 and volume 56 of which was recently published. He has been member of ICC International Court of Arbitration since 2000. In 2005 he was appointed as secretary general of arbitration center of Iran Chamber of Commerce (ACIC). He is currently a member of PCA and a board member of Tehran Regional Arbitration Center. Dr. Mohebi obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Tehran (1969) and his Masters in Private Laws (LLM) from the Shahid Beheshti (ex-National) University of Iran (1983). He obtained Ph.D. in international law from Louvain-la-Neuve University in Belgium in 1995. He is first grade attorney-at-law admitted as of 1980 as member of Central Bar Association. He is fluent in Farsi and English. He understands Arabic and French.
Patricia Shaughnessy
Professor Patricia Shaughnessy researches and teaches in the fields of dispute resolution and commercial law at the Department of Law, Stockholm University. She created and for 15 years directed the Master of International Commercial Arbitration Law Program (LLM). She is the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), having served on its Board since 2006. She was an active member of the committees that drafted the SCC Rules, including the 2017 Rules. Recently she served as a government-appointed expert in the committee that proposed revisions to the Swedish Arbitration Act. She acts an arbitrator and expert in international cases, and as a consultant, she has led projects related to commercial law and dispute resolution in many countries. Prior to her academic career, Patricia practiced law for ten years specialized in civil litigation.
Sami Houerbi
Sami Houerbi started his legal career in 1992 with international law firms in Munich (Germany) and in Paris (France). From 1999 to 2005, he was member of the Secretariat of the international Court of Arbitration of the ICC. Since 2005, Sami Houerbi acts as Consultant of the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC. He is in charge of raising awareness about Dispute Resolution mechanisms throughout the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa. In 2005, he founded Houerbi Law Firm, a boutique arbitration practice. Since then, he acts regularly as Arbitrator and Counsel under ad hoc and various arbitration institutions.
George A. Bermann
Professor George A. Bermann is professor of law and director of the Center for International Commercial and Investment Arbitration at Columbia Law School, as well as member of the faculty of the Ecole de droit, Sciences Po (Paris) and the Geneva LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS).
Professor Bermann is an active and experienced international commercial and investment arbitrator and member of the panels of most leading international arbitral institutions. He is head of the global advisory board of the New York International Arbitration Center (NYIAC), fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, founding member of the Governing Board of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (Paris), and head of the advisory board of the Thai Arbitration Center (Bangkok) and Center for International Investment and Commercial Arbitration (Lahore, Pakistan).
Professor Bermann is Chief Reporter of the ALI Restatement of the US Law of International Commercial Arbitration, co-editor-in-chief of the American Review of International Arbitration and member of board of editors of Revue de l’Arbitrage. He co-authored (with E. Gaillard) the UNCITRAL Guide to the New York Convention.
